Unique properties for rent in Bay Area

Having lived in San Francisco for many years, we return for many reasons:
familiar restaurants, old friends and older memories. We just discovered
www.rentingparadise.com can help us figure out where to stay when we
visit; Bay Area residents can use it as a reference for places to stash
visiting friends and families, or for weekend getaways.

The Web site sells two e-books ($7.95 each) that feature the wonderful
recommendations of Bay Area resident and travel writer Joyce Copeland.
One features places in San Francisco and Marin, the other focuses on
Sonoma County. Copeland's writing is remarkably descriptive, but more
importantly she ferreted out places we didn't know about when we lived in
San Francisco, places we now want to stay in when we visit.

We were surprised so many unique properties were available. One
recommendation: the Nob Hill Flats, three flats on Nob Hill, one of which is
a penthouse unit with its own private deck and garage space. I have stayed
at the Huntington Hotel on Nob Hill, but now I can't wait to have my own
private rooftop deck when we return. Prices for the flats range from $175 to
$300 per night.

I’ve never purchased an e-book before. But, in this case, it made perfect
sense, because I make all my reservations online anyway...  It was much
faster and more personal than scrolling through endless listings.

Our traveling entourage includes two small children and our dog. I find that
the ideal way to travel is to rent a home or cabin, where we can spread out
and don't have to worry about disturbing the neighbors.

The author's gift for finding the right words to make you see a place is what
makes
Renting Paradise so valuable. I also loved the tips on what to do in
the different towns and areas. I found a number of interesting destinations I
had no idea existed—and I've spent a whole lot of time up that way.

Reading Renting Paradise was a mini-vacation all by itself! By the time I
was done, I was ready to call the airlines to book our trip west. The only
problem will be deciding which location to try. Your criteria yielded 10 very
tantalizing choices and the links for additional information added to the
magic. Thank you!

"Do your homework and you
can spend a week in a country
manse with a pool, privacy, and
loads of local color—all for less
than you'd pay to stay in a hotel."

"A vacation rental can be an
ideal accommodation at just
about any destination. But it's
also arguably the riskiest travel
purchase you can make.

Typically, you must select an
apartment or cottage based on a
rental agency's description and a
few pictures.... But you have no
way to gauge how accurate any
of that information is until you
arrive."

"Want more space for less
money than a hotel on your next
trip? Consider renting a vacation
apartment or house...

Vacation-renters do need to be
independent-minded, however,
and flexible. Unlike hotels, there's
no front-desk staff to answer
questions or make bookings.
Unless you've rented a high-end,
luxurious place, there's no daily
(nor even weekly) maid service.
And rentals can have
idiosyncrasies, from balky
dishwashers and tiny closets to
unpredictable neighbors."

-The Seattle Times
"When searching for the
retirement locale of your
dreams, it's wise to spend time
in the area to help decide if it's a
perfect fit." "…search options
allow you to choose amenities
such as Internet access, a
swimming pool or proximity to
fishing or golf. Homes also can
be sorted by whether they take
pets or are suitable for other
specific needs. Some home
options cost as little as $200 a
week, though the average cost
is $200 per night."
